Important update on the Kerbside Glass Recycling Service

From this week, your silver (with teal lids) kerbside glass recycling bins are being delivered to homes across Newark and Sherwood! This one off update is designed to provide you with all the information you need to know. Some really important information for you to be aware of is below:

  • Delivery to all households will take around 8 weeks to complete and you’ll receive your bin anytime before the end of April 2024.
  • You can start using your bin as soon as you receive it!
  • Collections will start from Monday 8 April 2024.
  • To find your bin collection day, visit the bin collection calendar.

A short announcement video is available to watch here and NSDC’s full announcement is here.

You can put glass bottles or jars of any colour in your new bin as long as they are clean and empty, this includes food jars, drink bottles, toiletry jars, perfume bottles and reed diffuser bottles.

Some common things that you can’t put into your glass recycling bin and should go into your green waste bin include oven-proof glass such as Pyrex, mirrors, drinking glasses, vases, nail varnish bottles, panes of window or greenhouse glass, microwave plates, spectacles and light bulbs and tubes. This is because these do not melt at the same temperature as the glass that can be recycled.
