Voter ID needed for the General Election

As with the local elections in 2023 and the recent Mayoral and PCC elections you will need to bring photo ID with you to vote in person at the Parliamentary election on 4 July 2024.

This can be:

  • Passport – this can be an out-of-date passport, providing the picture is still recognisable as you.
  • Driving licence (including provisional license)
  • Blue badge
  • Certain concessionary travel cards
  • Identity card with PASS mark (Proof of Age Standards Scheme)
  • Biometric Immigration document
  • Defence identity card
  • Certain national identity cards

If you don’t already have an accepted form of photo ID, or you’re not sure whether your photo ID still looks like you, you can apply for a free voter ID document, known as a Voter Authority Certificate. You can apply for this at voter-authority-certificate.service.gov.uk.

Alternatively, you can complete a paper application form by contacting voting@newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk

You can find out more including how to apply for an Authority To Vote Certificate on our website: https://www.newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk/voterid/
