In the spring, The Parish Council decided to manage the Cross site in Collingham as a “flowering lawn” rather than a wildlife meadow.
Over the past few years too much grass has grown, which crowds out the wildflowers, and then it falls over and rots down, which makes the soil richer and encourages yet more grass.
This does mean that it will be cut more often (about every three weeks) but we hope it will offer the best balance between looks and pollinator friendliness.
